SolarEdge

SolarEdge Systems

SolarEdge DC-optimized architecture is the dominant platform in NYC's commercial rooftop fleet. We work across the full SolarEdge inverter and optimizer range using the SolarEdge GO platform and legacy SetApp tooling.

What We Diagnose

  • Optimizer communication failures (PLC break, failed unit, string break)
  • AFCI (arc fault) and GFDI (ground fault) investigation: physical inspection before reset
  • Grid voltage fault analysis (utility vs. wiring origin)
  • Over-temperature shutdown patterns
  • String offline: full diagnostic from DC disconnect to optimizer chain
  • Production underperformance: string-by-string analysis via SolarEdge GO
  • Communication failures: Wi-Fi, RS485, cellular kit troubleshooting
  • Inverter lifecycle assessment: HD-Wave, SE residential, three-phase commercial

Arc Fault Rule: We never reset AFCI or GFDI faults without first completing a physical inspection. These faults indicate real wiring conditions that can cause fires if reset blindly.
SMA

SMA Systems

SMA string inverters are common on NYC commercial systems across single-phase and three-phase commercial installations. We assess legacy and modern SMA platforms including Sunny Boy and Sunny Tripower.

What We Diagnose

  • Inverter fault code analysis: Sunny Boy, Sunny Tripower, Sunny Island
  • RS485 bus break diagnosis on multi-inverter sites
  • Sunny Portal communication failures and data gap investigation
  • MPPT tracking issues and shade-related string analysis
  • Isolation fault (Riso) diagnosis and string isolation testing
  • Grid parameter fault analysis
  • SMA Speedwire communication troubleshooting
  • Inverter capacitor aging assessment on older single-phase units

Common NYC Commercial Solar Faults

Patterns observed across Wadadli Solar's NYC commercial inspection portfolio.

Optimizer PLC Break

SolarEdge

A failed or disconnected optimizer breaks power line communication downstream. Multiple "not communicating" optimizers in sequence indicate the break location, not multiple hardware failures.

RS485 Bus Break

SMA

Multi-inverter SMA sites using RS485 daisy-chain fail downstream of the break point. All inverters after the break show as offline in Sunny Portal even if producing power.

Wi-Fi Credential Loss

SolarEdge / SMA

Client router or ISP change breaks monitoring communication. System continues producing but data is invisible. Average time to detection without active monitoring management: 3–6 months.

AFCI: MC4 Connector Arc

SolarEdge

Arc fault trips most commonly traced to oxidized, improperly seated, or damaged MC4 connectors on older systems. Never reset without full wiring inspection.

Over-Temperature Shutdown

SolarEdge / SMA

Inverters in utility closets, tight mechanical rooms, or direct southern exposure shut down during peak summer hours. Ventilation improvement resolves without hardware replacement.

Isolation Fault

SolarEdge / SMA

Low insulation resistance between array wiring and ground. Caused by damaged module, wiring insulation degradation, rodent damage, or water intrusion. Systematic string isolation testing required.
